Writing Your First University Paper (by Jo Atwell, Apr 20, 2012)
So are you stressing about writing your first university paper? Don't be worried, here are some guidelines and suggestions to help you along the way.
If you have already have been assigned your topic, you can get to it straightaway. But if you haven't, you would need to think about a topic that you would like to write about. Often you could choose a subject that interests you, something that you feel strongly about (which would make your custom essays more passionate and interesting), or you could even write on something which is nearby, something that you see or feel everyday. Explore the ideas, write down a few, and then think about which one you would like to.
A big part of writing your first university paper is to write the introduction well. Remember, this is basically the window to the rest of your article - it should give your reader (your supervisor, your professor, etc.) a basic idea of the theme you will be talking about, it should have an essay map of sorts, the ideas of discussion, and the point of view you are seeking to prove. It is very important to note that your introduction should be as brief and concise as possible, don't ramble, don't use long sentences, and use formal language.
Quoting sources effectively and efficiently is vital - you don't want to be accused of plagiarism, do you? Be sure to write a few basic drafts of the essay before getting started on it properly. This will ease your mind into the whole thing, and by then, you will be able to know what line of thought you would be taking. Do polish your style, take care of the grammar and the spelling, and write as concisely as possible. Those who are using English as a second language should look up basic grammar and common mistakes, to avoid any errors.
Researching your paper is important. You can't write on and on about how you feel, no, you need to put in stuff about how experts feel, what they have said on the subject, and the general consensus. You could even quote from surveys or encyclopedias, as the case may be. Refer to make your first university essay as professionally written as possible.
