Tips on writing essay: Law and Legal Studies (by Anne Felder, Apr 13, 2012)
First of all, it is always an excellent idea to try and find out what part of Law and Legal Studies you want to write about. If you are going to write on it in general, then your essay will run into several pages and thousands of words. Check to see if your essay has a word limit. If it does have one then before writing the essay you need to format it and find a way of dividing the topics into sub topics.
For an essay to read properly you need to explain any kind of terminology you are using. In Legal Studies, there are specific terms which need to be explained. So for example, if you are using a word like "subpena" then make sure that you write a little note through footnotes to explain it. Do not hesitate to insert any number of footnotes or endnotes if you want. This is primarily because once you insert notes it gets a lot easier for the reader to understand what you are talking about.
To understand Law or Legal Studies, it is also necessary that you mention the legal institutions. Understanding these legal institutions is relevant because you need to show how the Legislature, Judiciary and the Executive work in context of law. Divide your essay properly and structure it accordingly. Give each of these institutions some lines which will help provide readers with a much better idea of what Legal Studies involves. It is necessary that readers understand what you are talking about so try to keep it as uncomplicated as possible with as much details.
While it is always a very good idea to pack in details, don't stuff your essay with information. This tends to be problematic because you might end up formatting sentences that are too long or too complicated and go on endlessly. The essay should read properly and should make good sense. For a subject like Law and Legal Studies, you also need to show how it works or is applicable in modern day context. Pick out relevant situations or cases and make your essay an interesting read. This is the best way to have an essay which reads well.
