Academic Writing Mistakes

Many students stress over academic writing. Not only is there an enormous amount of research to do, one must also go over the introduction and conclusion, write the main text, and give logical arguments. In this rush and this tension, students often to tend to slip up and make very small mistakes, which make them lose marks or get a bad grade. While on this subject, there are some common academic writing mistakes that you should be careful to avoid.

One mistake, primarily, is not identifying the focus of your paper. Generally, lots of students do not clearly identify what the paper is about until many pages after the introduction. The point of the introduction is that it should give your readers a glimpse into what the research paper holds - it should contain your thesis statement, a brief gist of the paper and what you will be talking about.

So make the focus clear, as to what problem or what subject you are addressing. Your introduction is indeed very important, you should show to your readers why the subject is important and why you are tackling it - ideally, it should inspire your reader to read further, and how can you do that unless you make the focus clear? So don't make this very common mistake.
